The cottage is part of a 13th-century manor farmhouse set on the owner’s organic farm where dairy cows are milked, goats reared and racehorses bred. The cottage is spacious and comfortable - enjoy the cosiness of a log fire on a cold, wet, winter afternoon, or relax on the secluded patio after a game of tennis on a summer evening. Wonderful walking abounds. Visit Forde Abbey, Stourhead, Montacute and Corfe Castle or Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum, Longleat Park and Abbotsbury Swannery. Within an easy drive is the local swimming pool, Lyme Regis, the Jurassic Coast, Wells Cathedral, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge. Pub and restaurant 2 miles. Village shop 2 miles, pub 1 mile.

Reviews
Childhay Manor is a beautiful cottage in a fabulous, rural setting. It's peaceful and comfortable, with very friendly owners who happily showed us and our 8 year old daughter round the farm. She especially loved visiting the horses every morning and watching the baby goats! There are plenty of places within a comfortable car's drive to visit, whatever the weather, and we will definitely be back in Dorset again as soon as we can make it!

Childhay was fantastic - amazing views over the fields and hills from the lounge and bedroom windows. Very cosy in the evenings with the log fire. Surrounded by lovely countryside for long walks, but no mobile reception (not a problem when having a relaxing break!) Great value for money. Owners very helpful on arrival. Property has bags of character, but all modern amenities. Fun staying on a working farm, and great for children seeing the goats and cows. Don't forget to take your slippers in the winter, as there's a stone lounge floor. Can't fault Childhay, want to go again next year!

Beaminster is ‘Emminster’ in Thomas Hardy’s ‘Tess of the d’Urbervilles’. Dating back to the 7th century, this beautiful country town in west Dorset lies five miles to the north of Bridport. Most of the present town centre dates from the 18th and 19th centuries and is now a preserved area boasting over 200 listed buildings made from local stone.
Beaminster Square, in the centre of the town, offers easy parking for visitors close to the shops and boutiques. One of the oldest building in town is the Bridge House Hotel. Originally a home for priests in the 13th century, it is now a deluxe hotel with an award-winning restaurant. Other places of interest include Horn Hill Tunnel, which is the only pre-railway road tunnel still in everyday use, and the Beaminster Museum.
There are several local gardens open to the public, including those at the nearby Mapperton. This Elizabethan manor house has belonged to the Earl of Sandwich since the Restoration of King Charles II, and it now hosts concerts and various other events.
The annual Beaminster Festival of Music and the Arts offers a rich variety of music, exhibitions, literature, theatre and workshops.
